ABOUT Nyeri
The home is situated in Nyeri town, Central Province. Nyeri has been made famous by being in the heart of the moorlands that the ‘Mau Mau’ freedom fighters criss-crossed in Kenya’s pre-independence struggles in the 1950’s. It is at Nyeri where the old home of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts is found.
Against this background of history and beauty are economic problems and the inevitable poor who have been driven into an impossible position that has created a mountain of social needs. Not least is the AIDS pandemic, resulting to children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Hence NEW LIFE HOME TRUST has risen as in other places to address this problem by bringing hope in place of abandonment through the acquisition of a property to serve as a haven in the storm of these young lives.
The home opened its doors to vulnerable children in August 2006 and admits children below six months, with priority given to those who are HIV positive.
Severely malnourished or children needing special medical care are transferred to the main home in Kilimani, Nairobi which is registered as a private medical clinic. With support from the local community, Children Officers, police and the hospitals, the New Life Home Trust – Nyeri team will give many children an equal opportunity to life, as are other children in the society.
