NEW LIFE HOME TRUST, KILIMANI (NAIROBI)
Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, stands at the southern approaches of the Aberdares. Although it has been called “The City in the Sun,” it is a city and a province greatly affected by poverty, thus a large proportion of its population is living in the slums falling victim to HIV/AIDS, not least the children.
New Life Home Trust launched its first home against this background of despair in 1994. The present home is registered with the Kenyan Government to care primarily for abandoned and orphaned babies, particularly those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, although other areas of children’s needs are identified and addressed. The Home is also registered by the Ministry of Health as
|
a private medical institution under the medical supervision of Medical Director Dr. Paul Wangai, Jr., MB, CHB, MPH, PhD, MRSH, FICA, FACPM and the Matron Mary Beckenham, SRN, SCM, ONC, with support from a team of volunteer doctors. Babies needing special medical care are transferred to the Kilimani Home, which remains the Trust’s main facility and central offices for its nation-wide activities. |
